Spend the day beach hopping on Ischia or Capri, explore the Amalfi, spend the weekend in Rome, or just cruise and add to the local traffic problem while honking at everyone and everything...you can do this all while remaining happy that you are minimizing your contribution to local pollution.
• Never worry about parking! Park on the sidewalk, in between other cars, or inside a building’s lobby…your choice, I have seen it all!
• Never worry about traffic! Drive around cars, use the sidewalk to get around obstacles, or be Neapolitan and drive in the wrong lane…whatever you choose, you will get there faster than anyone else.
• Save money! Gas is expensive here…10 Euro to fill the tank and it is good for 2 weeks or more.
• Don't worry about theft! With a block shaft installed and a heavy duty tire chain lock, local criminals should move on to easier targets.
• Free Hugs! With a SSC Napoli soccer sticker on the windshield, you are treated with love and respect in Naples and will strike fear outside Campania.
Newer model used Vespas are rarely for sale in town. The few that are available are beat up and held together by duct tape and hope (I know, I searched for a year before finding this). Locals will also charge in excess of 2000-3000 Euros, likely more if you are an American. It is also nearly impossible to find a local mom and pop repair shop/dealer to do the required legal/customs paperwork for registration…it just will not happen.
This Vespa has only been owned by Americans and is registered/has AFI plates…a quick signature at the MVRO and it is yours. It is absolutely the best purchase that I ever made living here and I am sad to give it up. Rain, shine or trash…it always faithfully got me where I needed to go.
