This Hotel is only 90 minutes from the Support Site. It is run by a wonderful Italian family that greats you at the door and each time you enter the restaurant for meals. The table was assigned to us since day one. The food was always ready withing seconds!! breakfast is all you can eat buffet. They provide rides to ski area and ask for Mil discounts at the ski lifts. Get your rentals from Carney Park if you want to save money. Most of the roads are cleared of snow because of traffic. Roccaraso looks like Suisse but only a short distance from Naples.

Country House is not the best place in Napoli, but it is decent if you are stuck on the SS. You can call CH and they will send a driver to pick you up from the Support Site. No charge although a small tip E2-3 is expected for round trip. Food is good, not grand. Price is a little more than average for Napoli but Roma cheap. Expect to pay ~E10-15 per person including the 2 euro pp seat charge. Again, solid place for the support site but I wouldn't drive from Aversa to eat here.

Commenting on Coutneys imput...If you choose to spend your hard earned money on a product that is "HIT OF MISS" then by all means go for it.Waitstaff is nice , but kitchen staff is at best marginally skilled and show no signs of consistency. Trust me , I have been a chef for over 30 years and have worked and owned restaurant in Texas and New Orleans...if I ever sent out a product that I myself would eat or give my family then It would not make it out to my customers. And your point on hours and location are true...but with cooks that take no pride in the product they put out this all goes dogs!

Bambusa Seems to be getting a Bad Wrap, Its Not Fantastic But has been a Life saver to me and My husband when we 1st arrived in Italy and our car had not, We were able to walk there for a Nice dinner in a good clean atmosphere! Yes the food some times is a hit and miss but this is like most resturants, Never was any of our meals ever Uneatable :) As for service they are awesome, I catch myself just wanting to go cause of the service we get, they have always been friendly and helpful to us! As for seating we have never had to wait like others have said cause I thought you seated yourself cause thats what we do each time go! Im greatful that bambusa is so close as well as good hours of operation! I think the problem is people go there thinking its suppose to be this fine fancy dinner when its more like a Chili's Atmosphere In the U.S.! I say its worth a try, if you dont like it dont go back :)

This is definitely a date-quality restaurant. The quality of the food and service was outstanding, and we paid quite a bit less than what we pay at normal restaurants. We had a lobster that was as good as any I've ever had. The wine was excellent and not priced through the roof. Even the pasta was unusually good. Service was prompt, some English was spoken.

Ugh...where to begin? I waited with 3 STARVING children for 20 minutes before anyone came so we could order our DRINKS! The salad was old old NASTY. The dressing was repulsive. My children SPIT their food out (normally they eat ANYTHING!) We never had the same waiter/waitress (about 4 different people) come to the table so we had NO IDEA who we were supposed to ask for ketchup and who we were tipping?! You can make all of these things at home. Nothing is "signature" about their food. Its Italians doing a horrible job making american food. Dont waste your time or money! SUGGESTION: bring an american in who can cook and show you how to be successful with AMERICANS. After all, isnt that who you're serving. JOE- grab the bull by the horns!

Great Grilled meat, plenty of rice dishes, and wine bar. (currently closed until 29 August for summer vacation) Was not your typical napoli restaraunt w same old napoli menu. I had cheese, walnut, and honey appetizer and zucchini flower w ricotta cheese w batter fried eggplant and zucchini strips, the rice with some carrot sauce, and beef slices w orange sauce and cinnamon. Very tasteful. LOTS of rice dishes and wine selections. I am going back again!!!

Everything you eat will taste the same. It's all seasoned with the same spices. Every drink I ordered they didn't have. I drank good old bottled water. It never lets me down. Not worth the drive. But the food is cheap. Good place for a first date for teens.

Churra's is TOO EXPENSIVE for family dining and opens too late for family's as well. However a girl's or guy's night out is a great idea. Dates with drinks can be a very expensive tab. My last visit left me a little bitter because they kept bringing me raw meat. I love rear beef, but raw is not my thing. However, there is enough of other tasty foods to satisfy.

Bambusa

GPS: N 41 - E 14

Bambusa is hit or miss. Not a top quality restaurant by any means. I have had good service, good pasta and steak. However, the food is never good all the time. I thought the pasta dish would be something I could get over and over again, but the chefs have proven me wrong. The changes to the wings are awful and the salads are okay. The ribs are absolutely abhorrent. They say customers told them to change their house seasoned wings to those god awful hot wings I have had at people's dinner parties. Big mistake. The veggies could be spun so the water from them do not dilute the dressing and they should be made to order, not sitting in a very cold frig awaiting order. Your mouth is so shocked by the cold that you can't taste what's in them. By the end of dinner, I was so disappointed and hated that I had to pay for the food and experience.

To the owner: You made a statement about USDA certified beef and I gather you are amongst the uniformed. USDA certified beef is allowed to contain meat byproduct. This is what they have coined filler. It means that all ground beef can contain mechanically separated meat product. I say meat product that is bleached and colored or chemically treated in any way has no business in a burger.

For my friends, those of you I suggested try Bambusa, DON'T.

Nero's
Address:
GPS: N 41 - E 14

I just had to write about Nero's to rebut the " I Iived in Japan so I know good Japanese food" (paraphrasing). Nero's is Japanese and Italian fusion. So it can not be good Japanese nor real Japanese food. It's not even cooked by the Japanese. I know most Chinese food isn't either in the states and it tastes good. However, Nero's is the exception. The tempura shrimp are okay and the fried potato cakes with salmon are good too. But wait, those potato cakes are not Japanese. I have had real Japanese food, this isn't it. I absolutely love soba noodles, but there's are seasoned with too many italian spices and not enough Japanese. At the first bite I was taken back and the waitress noticed and asked if I like them. The answer was no. I asked for rice to eat them with and they gave me seasoned sushi rice, which made it even worse. The noodles were too tangy and soba is not supposed to be tangy and they gave me rice with rice wine vinegar to eat them with. Yuck. This place isn't worth the drive, traffic, or money.

It's got a little lounge area where you can just have a beer with finger foods and chat while you wait for your table, inside or outside - all in all a great athmospere! Good food, Great prices.. Bring your bug spray..

Since its the summer, i guess most resturaunts prefer that you eat outside, even when we have eaten inside at this place i have been attacted by mosquitos.. no biggie, just a warning.. The staff here speak great english(most of them anyway) and they are pretty quick to bring your food, and are usually accomodating to children.

for a party of 5(2 kids) the bill was 16 Euro...

This is a great resturaunt for the family, and super close to Support Site, I had family visiting and decided to take them there, and despite the 18th birthday party being held, and ALL the young(8-12yr olds) soccer players that were there celebrating, the food was still great, and service good considering the craziness of the place. This is also a great place for a party, or private gathering, they have 2(maybe more) enclosed rooms, that can be reserved. For a party of 7(2 kids) the bill was 85 Euro..

to get there, turn right out of Base, go over the bridge and continue strait you will turn right at the little round about thing, and take an immediet left after the gas station, then go strait until you pass under a bridge.. directly after the bridge you will see a white gate on the right, and thats the entrance.

I have to put my review in due to the one left by Luigi. First of all, I have had nothing but mediocre service and mediorce food. I have to say I one time waited an hour and half for a take out order that once recieved was cold. I spoke to the manager and his response was "were busy right now". Unacceptable response. Its not worth your time or money to eat at Bambusa. I think the owner feels since there are limited choices on base, that there is no reason to go above and beyond.

A satisfied customer told us about some really bad comments on this blog, but I had no idea they were so bad, and I will add mostly unfair too. First of all, our burgers are homemade and between 5 and 6 ounces, they are served in a warm Italian bun, with scamorza cheese and steakhouse fries or homemade onion rings; prices go from $ 7.49 up to $ 8.99 for a double burger (10 ounces meat!): even without converting that into euro, anyone can see that this is not overprized at all (an average pizza is at least € 6.00). We do have to buy from commissary some basic food, like meat and chicken, but that only means that it is USDA inspected, and this is not a bad thing at all; as for the ‘cook to order’ part, it is a Vet U.S. base rule, and a good one too: any average chef should know that burgers in particular, when not cooked properly, could become a health hazard. We don’t open frozen commissary food and reheat it as someone said, that is simply offensive, and it would be a stupid thing to do to our customers: we make our own dressing, and even the croutons are daily made with Italian fresh bread, not to mention lasagna or the glaze for the salmon.. I will not advertise the restaurant myself, I only say don’t believe everything you read, not even what I am writing myself: just give us the chance to surprise you with good and fresh food, and great service, as testified by many customers in the last months...I personally read all the surveys, and I want to thank all those who helped us to get better with their suggestions, last in order the new veggie burger (by the way, homemade too!). A bad service can happen, especially at the beginning, and I have learned that in over 25 years in this business and 5 restaurants, and I admit we had issues at the opening and for a good month, for reasons that I will not discuss here, but for sure not because we needed a trainer... This is your restaurant too, and I invite you to consider the opportunity to make it better with your suggestions: we keep track of all the monthly customers surveys, and we are consistently receiving great feedbacks...Thank you!

We just came back from eating dinner at Country House and although it is close by, we will not be going back to eat there unless it is for a function or on someone else's tab. We got to the restaurant and for whatever reason we had to eat outside (which was fine), but what we didn't know was that you are charged a 2 Euro per person seat charge. I have a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 children--2 are under 12yrs old and the other two are 13 and 15 yrs. old), so that translated into 12 Euros extra that we had to pay. Who eats at a place has a per seat cover charge?! The pizzas were fine, but the Soup of the Season (minestrone) was VERY salty--had to water it down a few times with our water so that it wasn't like I was eating a spoonful of salt. The spaghetti with clams was also quite salty. Definitely won't be eating there anytime soon. The prices were average, but with the cover charge it made it way more expensive than what we planned on.

Old Friends really makes you feel that way, from your initial greeting, to getting your final bill! From ordering your drink, which is done very quickly via a wireless palm pilot - so fast in fact, they arrived before the waiter left our table!! (In Italy? unbelievable) and then when you get your bill, its usually itemized and absolutely correct to the penny and then crossed out and rounded down a few euros (for example our bill was 72 Euro and then crossed out and written as 65 Euro!!). Plus they serve great food, good beer and do it in speed and comfort! AND they're open when we Americans (esp w/ kids) want to eat!! and don't even get me started on how good the steak is...but its a commitment as it's about the size of a small calf, and it comes seared but then you cook it yourself on a hot plate at the table - so each piece is perfectly cooked to your liking & still hot 1 hour later!! so be prepared and you'll be very happy! (call ahead, though, I don't think you can get these monster steaks on the weekend, because they can't keep enough of the hot plates going). Look for their ads in PANORAMA - they even run specials... these people "get it"

Disregard my last review. One good experience does not make up for the other 4 poor times. Where should I begin? Don't order the *fresh* unsweet tea, because its sour and old. Don't ask for an alternative type of drink because you have to pay for it even if you didn't drink it. Your kids dinner will come with the appetizer and they will be sitting for an additional hour waiting for you to get and eat your food. You might even venture to say your service depends on rank or appearance. The table across from us had lots of service whereas we had to flag the waiter down just to get a straw, ketchup, or refills. Chicken is dry so have a lot of sauce, only 1 refill is free, bottled water is $1.50 for cheap 20oz $.21 per bottle San Benedetto. Margarita almost just ice and mix, had to reorder with more liquor in it. If you don't care about your money, then you might ok with eating here. I would not recommend taking any newcomers or parents(as we did) to here instead try Arizona's, Comodoro's or Country House, all locally in Aversa. At least they are happy to fix your food/drinks if something is wrong with it. It seems on base they'll treat you however you like. Good luck if you go!

One word: SUCKS! I have given this place 3 different tries while staying in TLA. 1st off when you order a draft beer, you will get a glass that is half beer and half head (foam) when I asked the bartender to fill my glass up all I got was attitude. Just order bottled beer so you actually get 16 oz of beer vise 8oz beer & 8oz foam. 2nd the food is awful...you are better off going to the commissary and grabbing some frozen food and cooking in your microwave...fries and onion rings are cold, burgers are precooked and heated up in the microwave, chicken wings absolutely SUCK no MEAT on the bone, and the chicken fingers are not even "chicken" but some kind of dog food looking "parts" that are breaded to look like chicken. Salads are OK...but then again...how easy is it to make a salad?

In short STAY A WAY AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!!

If you are not aware, service IS included in Italy AND most of Europe. It is customary to leave a few Euro coins IF you think the service was exceptional. I read that this is the best pizzeria in Naples, but was left somewhat disappointed. The wait to get in is roughly 30-40 minutes. Once you get in the seating is very tight and you sit at common tables with strangers you don't even know. They serve two types of pizza, margherita or marinara. Once we got our pizza it looked great, but trying to eat it was challenging. The outside of the crust is firm but the central portion of the pizza is a soup, that you try and eat with a fork. Overall the taste was good. 4 pizzas and cokes came out to 27 Euro and service is not included so they will remind you. If you don't mind holding your neighbors fork while he cuts his pizza and you don't mind hardy smell of armpits as you eat a pizza this is the place for you. If you want something with a better atmosphere and more rooms, 3 floors, try pizzeria Trianon da Ciro just up the street.

Excellent for a hot date out with the wife or to impress that special someone in a romantic setting. The location is a bit hidden however once found, inside is a modern breath of fresh air from the same ole Neopolitan scne and cooking. A must see!!! Very classy and cozy. The Chefs creations are both artsitic and tasty. Some dishes are a bit risky however the kitchen staff pulls it off with detailed class....

Food is great (I lived in Japan, so take my word for it), prices very reasonable for being in such a touristic, upscale location. Friendly bilingual staff, reservations are not necessary but you can call in advance if desired at 3663408825.
Feel free to google for extra information. Japanese beer and miso soup are kind of pricey, so if you are on a low budget, try to avoid them.

THE BEST PIZZA IN NAPLES! with the freshest ingredients! Try their specialty: "Sostar" half a calzone and margherita with delicious ricotta cheese and mozzarella and freshly- cut ham, rucola and tomatoes. For dinner they also make "croquets", basically fried potato cakes with mozzarella, pepper and parsley, they're awesome!!
The only downfall is that they don't accept reservations and the wait time for a table is very long! So make sure to be there at 1 pm or 8 pm but not later! Closed on Tuesday. It is located in the vicinity of the soccer stadium in Naples. Tangenziale exit: Fuorigrotta.

I personally do not agree with Joe's comment. They may not be the very best in the Naples area, but the fact that they serve good food with a great attitude and open at a half way decent hour is worth it to me. The food that my family have had since going there has been consistently good, we have had ordered that hamburgers, the sald (the bambusa dressing rocks) and chicken with not one compliant. As an Amercian give it a try - you will not be disappointed.

The sign is high on a telephone pole, red, and has hard to read gold lettering, but once you pull into the parking lot and see the orchard of lemon and lime trees, the winding grape vines above the tables to the left, and the fire pit where you can see your food being cooked slow cooked over an open wood fire... you will be changed. Then the multi course meal begins, the wine with fresh peaches, and the most friendly staff, Ciro and Giovanni. Call for a reservation: 081 854 3318 or 333 586 0190. It's open from 2000-close most days and only for brunch on Sundays. The website is simple but has a nice picture: http://www.conviviumcuma.it/ We highly recommend it for either a couple of people or 30 people groups.

La Taverna di Bacco
Address: Via S. Spirito, 4

We found this restaurant on our way back from Solopaca in the Benevento province. It is a beautiful place up on a hill, in a very peaceful location. You can eat inside and outside, there is a/c and there is a playground right outside. The prices are very reasonable for just about everything. We tried the pastas and the meats, but do plan to come back to try the rest. We got there very late (4:00pm) and we didn't expect them to even be open. They were open, indeed, and were very busy! They told us right away that there would be a little bit of a wait, but we didn't mind, because they were very kind and apologized about it from the start. While we were waiting, they sent up a VERY GENEROUS appetizer of friend dough with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese - on the house! Needless to say, it was very appreciated. Before we left the owner came to ask us how we had enjoyed the meal, and we told him we had a great time. He then offered us home made grappa, which is much better than the store bought - on the house as well. We are definitely going back just to eat there. Depending on traffic, I believe it took us about 1 hour, but we can't wait to go back. There are a few little towns around there that you can visit, Solopaca is one of them, and Benevento is not too far.

Unfortunately I forgot to get the GPS coordinates, but if you program your navigator for Solocasa, you should see the sign for La Taverna di Bacco on the right a few kms before getting to Solocasa. Beautiful, gorgeous place, with great food and great service. Their phone # is 0824-945025. They're closed on Tuesdays.

Le Piramidi
Address:
GPS: -

This was my first experience eating out in Italy in a sit down restaurant and I am glad that it was this place. La piramidi is honestly not more than 5 mins from base if thats on a rainy day with bad traffic, when you leave base (support site) go up on the ramp and just go straight I believe google maps says it is 900m. It does not stick out quite as much as I was expecting considering the website it has and the advertisements, but it is on your left ( for some reason the directions that I got from the Fleet and Family center said right, if you get to the small roundaboutish thing you have gone too far, just turn around and you will see it on the way back, just drive a little slow the big sign says " Ristorante Trattoria Pizzaria". Parking is free, and on the street and it was safe, we did accidentally park in front of a gate that lead to someones home and had to move the car, no one was angry just asked us to move it. They open at 5 for dinner which is nice for Americans, we went at about 6 and there were a few other couples from base there, one of which had a small child in a stroller so it is for sure a family place. They have a patio and an inside area, keep in mind that air is a luxury, not one everyone has in Italy so dress accordingly. It is very casual there so you can wear your shorts and flip flops and no one will care. There is a little boy there that speaks English flawlessly, I wouldn't have even known he was Italian, the waiter we had was very nice and spoke English well, a little broken but we had no issues talking to one another (my husband and I know absolutely no Italian so that says a lot). They give bread with the meal, and have your classic Italian dishes, My husband and I each got half a chicken with potatoes and split a caprese ... it was honestly one of the most fantastic things I have eaten it was my first time having real mozzarella as well which is a REAL treat when you are american, the whole meal cost us 25 euro even and we left a 5 euro tip since we are unfamiliar with what is custom. We left stuffed, and very happy. They also offer pizza and take out from what I hear and are open for lunch. They have a website as well http://www.ristorantepizzerialepiramidi.com/ there is no English version, but if you plug it into google it translates well. For us, we just walked in, I really don't think there is need to call ahead but then again we were early for an Italian dinner. It really was a fantastic place. I was very very happy with it. Hope this helped someone, going out is VERY scary when you are unfamiliar with the area and have no clue how to speak with anyone. I promise you other than getting euro this is very stress free and a good place to start, you could even walk there if you wanted to.

Directions: Leave Support Site, go over bridge toward Aversa, make left at traffic light (where Patrick's Automotive is), take that road all the way down and then make right. Papajo's is GREAT! Whenever you visit the Giugliano mall forget about McD's or Spizzico, or Fratelli LaBufala...! Papajo's better! they are located inside the new Fair shopping building (dark brown, used to be Conforama) but you can access the restaurant from the outside, the door is to the right of the bldg, or from inside Fair. Great complete quick meal at lunchtime - pizza is great! - prices are good too, no more than 8 to 10 Euro. Wonderful louge bar if you like happy hour (great cocktails) or you happen to be there around late afternoon, several staff speak great english. In the evening they have a more refined menu choice, more expensive than the lunchtime period, count around Euro 30 - but of course it depends on what you eat! Great tempura, fantastic eggplant parmesan and seafood salad, great ravioli amalfitana (must try!!!) and wonderful choice of meats and wines. The place is elegant, fantastic parking, and great staff. A must try whenever you're in the area! They are often open through 2 a.m. (can't remember their closing day) - Give it a try!

Recommended for seafood, but they also serve wood-fired pizza and pasta. I would say the risotto alla pescatora is the best I've had anywhere. All seafood pasta is delicious and well prepared. Service (they know me) is very good, but you still have to ask for the check. In summertime, they have a live music on weekends. Open every day of the week. An average, complete meal in Naples is about 30 euros - that's my definition of average and that's how this place is priced.

Great restaurant and reasonable prices. Good for families with children, big parties or just two people. It is dedicated to the Naples Soccer Team so there is alot of Soccer song chanting and tv's running soccer footage which I personally think is pretty cool. There is karaoke on Friday's. Two of the owners speak pretty good english as one of them used to work on the Support Site. Open Tuesday through Sunday and even open for lunch on most days. If you go on Saturday after 9 I'd recommend making a reservation and since they know english you could call with no problems. Plenty of parking and just really great food, nice staff and a great atmosphere. There is also pizza available to go and for delivery around the Licola area.

This place has mixed reviews here - primarily because they can cook your food two different ways. The key for Americans is to CALL AHEAD. If they know you're coming, they can break out the spices and make some amazing food & guac. If you don't call, you get the food prepared the Italian way (bland). So - make sure you call ahead. This place is awesome.

We went to Amore Sushi this evening because we saw a review that recommend it on this web site. The directions were helpful to finding the place but everything else was wrong. Upon entering the resturant, the first thing that hit us was the smell....it was RANK. We are avid sushi eaters and this was not a normal sushi place smell. But we sat down and gave the food a shot. The california roll was ok but at 2 euro a piece is expensive. The salmon on rice was plane and on top of that the sashimi was not cold. It was a yucky room temp. We also ordered the Dragon roll which looked good in the picture but when it was set in front of us, it looked nothing like the picture. Over all the place was not good and we couldnt wait to get out of there.

The evening a I went, he place was packed with a mixture of American and Italian clientele. Two levels and a terrace, we found our table next to a comfortable woodburning stove. Their menu is seasonal, representing the best that Campania, particularly Campi Flegrei has to offer. Nando (the owner) suggested we try the appetizers. We agreed and were treated to a parade of specialties proudly brought to our table by a simpatico staff.
• Bruschetta with lardo nostrano
• Tagliere con cacio ricotta e salami dei Campi Flegrei
• Zuppa di fagioli (!!!!!)
• Panpata con salsiccia e friarielli (a pastry with cheese, sausauge and the famous friarielli greens baked together!!!!)
• Crepes di ricotta con fonduta di noce di Sorrento(!!!!ricotta cheese crepes with cheese and nuts from Sorrento!!!!)
• Zucca e salsiccia ( creamy pumpkin cooked to perfection with hints of sausage, garlic, and olive oil!!!)
• Pancotto di broccoli con crema di patate (!!!!)
Then it was time to move on to something else. I chose to skip the first course and go for beef braised in aglianico with mashed potatoes. Very tender…..

Wine list? Basically a book featuring almost every wine imaginable. Our choice….Montegauro –Piedirosso Riserva 2007 DOC from Grotte del Sole.
Excellent choice of desserts, I chose the chocolate flan. This is basically a chocolate brownie covered with powdered sugar oozing with melted chocolate. A warm, toasty way to end an amazing meal before we stepped out into the cold night air.

Moulin Rouge
Address: Moulin Rouge Restaurtant Address:? Corso Umberto I, 507 81033 Casal di Principe CE, Italy
GPS: 41.007643 - 14.115997

Note that you can search in Google maps for the restaurant name. Note that when we first tried to find the restaurant based on the map, we did not go far enough down Corso Umberto to find the restaurant.

This restaurant is friendly to Americans, they have staff that speak english, as are the menus. Nice casual place, nothing fancy, but the prices are reasonable and the dishes are pretty good.

Mare Luna
Address: C.so umberto I, 67 - Pozzuoli (NA)
GPS: 40.821537 - 14.128481

This restaurant is tucked in among many eateries of its type along the shore line in picturesque Pozzuoli. Mare Luna is situated in the middle of the strip, perfect for Thursday-Saturday people watching, a hop and a skip from home-made Gelato waffle cones and parking is available, but can be challenging. Weather seated under the awning or immersed in AC in Luna’s spacious dinning room you are well served by staff and the occasional street performer. The menu is seafood dominant, but easily accommodates pasta dishes and of course – pizza. While we were not in the mood for it, the most notable menu item is the antipasti made up of many tapast type dishes for a total of 15 Euro. My party of three enjoyed the mixed fried antipasti, a bottle of “house” red wine, baked fish with potatoes, spicy Penne pasta, Rucula salad, and fried calamari for a total of 60 Euro. I rate Mare Luna 7.5 out of 10.
